PASTE UP! The first Collage Festival in Mexico, with the participation of the mexican collective Mexicollage, invites artists and public in general to participate in this first edition, which will take place in Mexico City from April 25 to May 18, 2019; taking as main location La Fraternidad (Avenida México # 200, Col. Condesa, CDMX) –location of the Universidad de la Comunicación– as well as in several galleries and independent exhibition spaces in various parts of the city.

The festival is focused on collage in general and its vision and the contemporary application of this technique at a national and international level, which has taken a presence and importance in several areas of art, for more than a century. In this first edition will feature the participation of various artists and experts in collage and the arts in general, from activities such as workshops, rallies, conferences, screenings, talks, exhibitions, publications, among others. The curatorship of the festival will feature the participation of national and international artists with a recognized career within the world of collage; we will also open a space for emerging talents who want to show their work.

Mexican artists, as well as foreigners, may participate individually and / or collectively. There are no age restrictions. It is not necessary that the aspirants have an artistic career or broad curriculum; however, this will be a factor for curating exhibitions and selecting works.

The Organizing Committee will appoint a Jury that will select the participating works that will conform the exhibitions. For this purpose, artists must register and send their documentation through the page www.pasteup.mx, from February 15, 2019, and no later than March 15, 2019 at 23:59 hrs. (Central Mexico time). To facilitate its registration, we recommend the participants that the information be captured in a single session.

BASIS OF PARTICIPATION

CATEGORIES AND DISCIPLINES

Each artist may propose a maximum of 5 works submitted individually, or may propose a project or series of maximum 4 pieces, which must include a written justification. The works may be presented in any of the following categories:

  • Analogue Collage: Cut and paste manually, from printed materials.
  • Digital Collage: Digitally manipulated, with design tools.
  • Video-Collage: Video, music video, gif, animation.
  • Applied Collage: Poster, silkscreen, editorial design, album design, sculpture, advertising, ready-made and artist’s book.

The proposed works must be integrated by materials and elements that allow their future assembly. In any case will be accepted works of ephemeral consistency or that contain elements that endanger the safety of people or exhibition buildings.

Within the maximum of 5 proposed works, the categories may vary.

In case of being selected, all works must be delivered as they were presented for selection and must be ready for exhibition. Any work that does not respect the aforementioned specifications will be automatically disqualified.

PASTE UP! will accept only works owned by the author, made from 2015.

ANALOGUE COLLAGE: Cut and paste manually, from printed materials.

Artists or groups that want to participate in the category of analogue collage should register on the page www.pasteup.mx, attaching clear images and in good resolution that they intend to participate, in .jpg or .pdf format at 1024 x 768 pixels, with a maximum of 2MB per file. The works to participate must be original and available. The maximum size of a work is 150 cm. on each of its sides. The title of the digital file must correspond to the title of the work. Important: use only alphanumeric characters without accents.

DIGITAL COLLAGE: Digitally manipulated, with design tools.

Artists or groups that want to participate in the category of digital collage should register on the page www.pasteup.mx, attaching clear images and in good resolution that they intend to participate, in .jpg or .pdf format at 1024 x 768 pixels, with a maximum of 2MB per file. The works to participate must be original and available. The maximum size of a work is 150 cm. on each of its sides. The title of the digital file must correspond to the title of the work. Important: use only alphanumeric characters without accents.

In case of being selected, will be notified and must send via email or WeTransfer, <info@pasteup.mx> all the works to participate in high resolution (300 dpi minimum) and CMYK format to the same email.

VIDEO-COLLAGE: Video, music video, gif, animation.

Artists or groups that want to participate in the video-collage category should send their file(s) in .mpeg, .wmv, .gif or .avi format, at a minimum size of 320 x 240 pixels, including also two stills images of the video in .jpg at 1024 x 768 pixels, with a maximum of 2MB per file. Or, you can attach a YouTube or Vimeo link in a tab of the registration form, which will be made on the website: www.pasteup.mx. The projection of the works in video format must have a maximum duration of 10 minutes of effective exposure.

In case of being selected, will be notified of the format and means to send their files in high resolution to the email <info@pasteup.mx>, or via WeTransfer to the same email.

APPLIED COLLAGE: Poster, editorial design, design of record material, sculpture, advertising, ready-made and artist’s book.

Artists or groups that want to participate in the category of applied collage should register on the page www.pasteup.mx, attaching clear images and in good resolution that they intend to participate, in .jpg or .pdf format at 1024 x 768 pixels , with a maximum of 2MB per file. The works to participate must be original and available. The maximum size of a work is 150 cm. on each of its sides. In case of the sculpture, the work should not be bigger than 100 x 100 x 100 cm and the weight should not exceed 20 kg. The title of the digital file must correspond to the title of the work. Important: use only alphanumeric characters without accents.

* Specifications

For the works that intervene directly in the exhibition space, the participants must send a description of their projects, not more than one page, as well as plans, sketches, models, drawings, illustrations, videos or any other support material.

Any documents will be received outside the stipulated dates. For the information sent by traditional mail, the date of the postmark will be taken into account. Works that do not follow the requirements described above will be automatically disqualified.

It is recommended that all participants take care of the quality of the images, so that they allow a better appreciation of their works.

WORK SELECTION

Previously to the work selection, a proposal of the works must be submitted to participate in the open call. The reception of works will not be accepted without having been previously selected and confirmed.

In case of being selected and residing in Mexico City or the Metropolitan area, each artist must bring their original pieces properly packed and framed to the Universidad de la Comunicación location at address Zacatecas #120, Col. Roma Sur, CDMX; after being notified, between February 16 and March 25, from 10 am to 6 pm; to name of Heleny Ivette Ortiz Dávalos.

In case of being selected and not residing in Mexico City, each artist or collective must send their pieces properly packed and unframed by postal mail to the location of La Universidad de la Comunicación at address Zacatecas #120, Col. Roma Sur, CDMX; between February 16 and March 25, to name of Heleny Ivette Ortiz Dávalos.

In case of residing in the Metropolitan area, the recollection of the participating works will be notified once the exhibition and the festival has finished. Once the exhibitions are finished, each artist or person in charge of the collective will have a lapse of 30 working days to pick them up at the location of La Universidad de la Comunicación at address Zacatecas #120, Col. Roma Sur, CDMX.

In case of not residing in the Metropolitan area, the return of the original works to each  artists at the end of the festival, is paid by the festival, to the same postal address where it was sent without cost.

The Organizing Committee of PASTE UP! Festival Internacional de Collage en Mexico will inform each participant of the selection decision made by the Jury, which will be announced individually by the email registered in the call.

A maximum of 200 works will be selected for exhibition and publication, counting all categories. Only the works that have been selected will be received and exhibited. Registration material that has been physically sent and not selected will be requested for collection, and may not be displayed. The period of reception of the selected works will be February 15 to March 25.

The Jury will be integrated by specialists in the area of visual arts. The Organizing Committee of the festival will announce it in the right time in the Selection Act.

EXHIBITION OF SELECTED WORKS

The selected works will integrate a circuit of exhibitions that will be exhibited in 7 galleries in Mexico City:

            – La Fraternidad

           – Espacio Arterial

            – We Are Todos

            – GAMA

            – Panteón

            – Casa Equis

            – Film Club Café (Pandora’s Box Gallery)

In case the exhibition is requested to be exhibited in other locations, the works can not be withdrawn until the festival is finished.

The cost of packaging and transportation of work, both shipping and collection and the corresponding insurance during your journey, are paid by the selected artists. It is recommended that the packaging of the works can be reusable. Artists residing abroad will be responsible for the procedures for sending their works (packaging, customs, stationery, storage and insurance). The festival will be responsible for its return.

The festival will only be responsible for the conservation and security of the pieces from the moment they have been received in good condition at its gallery. The festival will not be responsible for the damage caused during the journey. Selected artists whose presence is considered necessary for the assembly of their work(s) must commit to do so. Travel and lodging expenses in the city will be borne by each artist. The selected pieces composed of several elements must have an economic value assigned to each of them. In case any element suffers any damage during the assembly or exhibition, the replacement value of said element will be taken into account. In those works that demand the interaction of the public, the artist will be responsible for the deterioration that this may cause to the piece.

Once the exhibition of the participating works is finished, the artists will have a period of 30 days to collect their pieces. At the end of this period, the organizers will decide the fate of the works that have not been claimed. The Organizing Committee will be responsible for the procedures and expenses involved in the return of the works.

By registering their works, the participating artists expressly accept the terms and bases of this call.
